October 29, 1954 Vanishing Spooks, Goblin Salad, Fortune Cup Cakes, Salmon-Macaroni Bake

Vanishing Spooks

Float spook-faced marshmallows in cups of hot chocolate. Paint faces with food coloring. As marshmallow dissolves the spook vanishes.

Goblin Salad

Roll big balls of cottage cheese in shredded carrots. Make faces on them using raisins or bits of dates. Serve in pear halves on greens. Very cunning indeed.

Fortune Cup Cakes

Make small cut in bottom of each cup cake. Tuck small strip of rolled-up white paper on which you have written a prediction, into cut. Frost tops and sides with any white frosting, roll in coconut tinted green or orange.

Sample Fortunes for Cup Cakes

True to your friend, kind to your foe
People must love you whereever you go.

The girl you meet with golden hair
Beware of her, my friend, beware.

The future has in store for thee
A loving mate and children three.

A happy home, enough to spend
Good health and friends until life's end

Cupid's bow is bent, beware
Lest thy heart-strings he should tear.

Tomorrow night you'll have a letter
From one who wants to know you better.

Long life and good looks
Many friends, many books.
