September 16, 1954 Hamburg Bar-B-Que, Twin Party Cakes, Deluxe Angel Food Cake, Glorious Golden Cake

Hamburg Bar-B-Que
From: Ruth Simons, Spencerport

1 pound ground beef
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
1/4 c. chopped celery
1 t. salt
1/8 t. pepper
1/8 t. accent
1/4 c. ketchup
1 T. vinegar
1 T. sugar
1 1/2 t. Worcestershire sauce
1 8-oz. can tomato sauce

Cook vegetables about 5 minutes in 2 T. fat. Add meat and sauce. Mix other ingredients together and add to meat. Simmer 20 minutes. Spoon onto hamburger buns.

Twin Party Cakes

Deluxe Angel Food Cake

1 2/3 c. egg whites
1 c. plus 2 T. sifted cake flour
3/4 c. sifted sugar
1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 t. cream of tartar
1 c. sifted sugar
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. almond

Separate egg whites when cold, let stand to room temperature. Sift flour with 3/4 c. sugar 5 times. Beat egg whites with salt until foamy, add cream of tartar and continue beating until whites are stiff and stand in peaks. Add 1 cup of sugar gradually, continue beating until sugar is well blended. Add extracts. Sprinkle sugar and flour mixture evenly over eggs, beat just enough to blend. Gently push batter into ungreased 10 inch tube pan. Bake 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Invert to cool before removing from pan.

Glorious Golden Cake

1 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1/4 t. salt
1 1/4 c. sugr
10 egg yolks
1 whole egg
1 t. vanilla
1 t. lemon
6 T. cold water

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Beat egg yolks and whole egg together until thick and lemon colored. Add sugar gradually and continue beating, until sugar is dissolved. Fold in flour mixture. Add cold water, vanilla and lemon which have been combined. Beat just enough to blend ingredients. Bake in 10 inch tube pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Note: If you are having a party bake these two cakes, one using the egg whites only, the other the yolks. Very pretty when alternated on a large platter, that is, a piece of angel food, a piece of golden cake, etc.
