Top part:

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
1 beaten egg
1 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. vanilla

Cream together sugar and shortening. Add combined milk and egg alternately with flour and baking powder. Add flavoring. Set aside and mix lower part.

Lower part:

1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
6 T. water
