September 21, 1954 Cookie Carnival Cut Out Cookies, Crunchy Crisps

Cut Out Cookies

1 c. shortening
4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 t. salt
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
1 t. soda

Cut shortening into flour combined with salt, until mixture resembled fine meal.Combine eggs and sugar, beat well. Combine milk, vanilla and soda. Add to flour mixture, mix well. Roll out 1/4 inch thick, cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.


Crunchy Crisps

1 c. shortening (half butter)
 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/4 c. rolled oats
1/4 t. salt
2 t. baking powder
1 c. shredded coconut
1 t. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add vanilla, add egg, and beat until fluffy. Sift flour measure, add salt and baking powder, sift again. Add dry ingredients, rolled oats and coconut to creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet, space 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.

Note: Cookies may be rolled into small balls and flattened with a fork.
